My name’s Michael and I spend much of my off duty time in my garden studio, painting, designing, planning and now writing on Substack.
I’m an expressionist landscape artist from the UK and I’ve been online, in one form or another for over twenty five years (I know that’s hard to believe, eh?). Blogs have come and gone, sites have been live and dormant and I’ve even tried my hand at podcasting
But what’s the backstory?
With 30 years in a public service desk job firmly behind me, in 2018 I embarked on a voyage of artistic discovery. I’ve always been creative in one firm or another, but I always came back to painting now I wanted to see how far that journey would take me
On this Substack I’ll talk about making plans, share mistakes and insecurities, make observations, relate stories and divulge more than a little neuroses about making a living from creating art.
Anything else?
At the end of 2019 I recorded a show called: The studiOH! podcast.
The initial idea behind the show was to provide support for other artist starting on their journey. I’d planned regular seasons, guest interviews, art tips…the whole nine yards. But, well, we all know how 2020/21 ended up.
Despite my best intentions I strayed somewhat from my planned format and the episodes became more personal in nature, allowing insights into my own life, methods, madness and struggles with the business of making art.
In the end, the studiOH! podcast became a limited series of 6 shows of about 15 minutes each.
I’ve been asked many times if the podcast is coming back but, right now, that’s not on the cards so it’s on hiatus for the immediate future.
The studiOH! Podcast, which can be found here… but out of the ashes, The StudiOH! Diaries is born. All the same intent, just in text form.
